In early 2007, I discovered an amazingly-constructed video on YouTube by Dr Michael Wesch, an Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology at Kansas State University. The title of his video is “The Machine is Us/ing Us” and in under 5 minutes he managed to grab my attention like nothing else in recent times.  If you’ve never seen this video, you really must- but you also must concentrate on it for full effect.

For some people, life blossoms and pampers. For me, life aches.

Why is your life spent in eternal sunshine while mine is in perpetual fog? I commute sixty miles each day just to make ends meet while you have no concept of what either end actually is. People hang on your every word. People hang up on me.

Brad & Phil: Parallel Divergence 12 October, 2006

Since my son inspired me to start a blog and helped me with the layout, I decided to give him a little job.  A blog that’s just full of text can be pretty boring in spite of the best creative writing efforts that may have gone into constructing it.  A good blog needs a hook.  Now I know it’s been done before, but I think if I include a (hopefully) witty and original cartoon with most of my posts, then that may just be the hook I need.
